Book Review Niche Marketing For Coaches by Hannah McNamara (Thorogood, 2007)

Coaches have a particular way of saying the word ‘marketing’ –usually with the same enthusiasm as they say the words ‘income tax returns’ or ‘having root canal surgery’.

Which is a great pity since marketing is such a vital part of running a coaching practice. Author and Chartered Marketer, Hannah McNamara points out that without it no one is going to know how wonderful you are!

‘It’s the biggest taboo in coaching,’ she says. ‘The phone doesn’t ring all by itself. People walking past your home don’t telepathically know that there’s a coach inside who could help them to achieve their goals.’

Hannah McNamara bypasses the heavy terminology and scary formulas that make many marketing books such a chore to read and instead explains in a refreshingly simple manner what marketing is, why you need it and how you can use it to make your business grow. It’s straightforward and easy to understand and so inspiring that by the end of the book, I wished I had a coaching business to market!

‘Marketing,’ she says, ‘is a way of building rapport with our clients before we’ve even met them or spoken to them.’

This book could help anyone to learn to love marketing! Moreover, it will help you to plot out your own marketing plan to attract the perfect clients for you and it will save you from wasting money or time on adverts or other promotions that won’t hit the target. In fact, it is so useful that it should be superglued into the hands of every graduating coach.
